Apple might re-invent the Walkie-Talkie with a new document outlining a “Point-to-point ad hoc voice communication”, which when taken into consideration the diagrams, seems to boil down to using a short range communication technology, like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to establish a voice link between individuals on a peer-to-peer basis.
The document outlines some sort of smart touch interface that appears to be used to manage advanced talking rules, perhaps with the addition of things like separate channels with encryption, priority, or user roles and privileges. The device could be powered by the interface itself but there are suggestions in the text that it will be able to connect wirelessly or otherwise to Apple devices, like an iPhone. Thinking deep, there could be some sense in it as many professional settings – security, construction, logistics and all types of people that perform coordinating functions still use such equipment. It is still also used within front desks and the back of an Apple store.
In as much as the technology seems outdated, addition of some smart features will revitalize it. Apple in the past has always succeeded in making patents real with the end product. The question is ; why would any one consciously buy a walkie talkie in this age despite smarts added to it? Lets wait and see. We trust Apple as they have never disappointed so far.
