Apple announced that it had rewarded the 14 year old boy that discovered the recent FaceTime bug. The bug in Apple’s FaceTime software let Apple users listen in on the people they are calling, and even see through their front-facing camera, without them picking up the call.
The bug was discovered by Grant Thompson, a Tucson, Arizona high school student, who along with his mother Michele led Apple to turn off FaceTime group chat while its engineers investigated the issue.
Reuters reports that technology giant said it would compensate the Thompson family and make an additional gift toward 14-year-old Grant’s education. Though the company did not disclose the actual amount.
“In addition to addressing the bug that was reported, our team conducted a thorough security audit of the FaceTime service and made additional updates to both the FaceTime app and server to improve security,” Apple said in a statement.
Apple also formally credited Thompson and Daven Morris from Arlington, Texas in the release notes to its latest iPhone software update.
A fix has since been developed and rolled out.
