Tech giant, Apple, has appointed ex-Googler, Teju Ajani, as its Country Manager, effective March 1, 2021.
Before this appointment, Teju Ajani worked in various capacities at Google as the Country Manager for Android, Head of Content Partnerships for YouTube and Business Development Manager.
Teju also worked as a Product Manager at Oracle and Programs Manager at VMWare.
This is the first major appointment for Apple in Nigeria.
It would be interesting to understand Apple’s plan for Nigeria and indeed the continent of Africa. It would seem that it had not considered Africa to be a market for its products. There is currently no official Apple store in Africa, only authorised resellers.
However, I guess the company might have noticed the growing influence of Samsung and other Android-based smartphones in the continent hence the re-think.

Statistics however show that as at February 2021, only 7.61% of smartphone or devices in Nigeria use Apple products. 84.83% of Nigerians with smartphones or smart devices use Android devices.
Maybe Apple has also considered the growing influence of the Nigerian market in the technology scene and as such it would be myopic not to notice the market.
Recently Spotify launched in Nigeria thereby signifying the importance of the most populous country in Africa.
I do believe that as Teju settles down in her office, she would be able to give us full details of the tech giant’s plans in Africa.
Welcome Teju Ajani
