Ampler Unveils Nova Series: The First USB-C Chargeable E-Bikes

Estonia-based e-bike manufacturer Ampler has just launched its latest innovation — the Nova and Nova Pro — marking a significant milestone in electric bike design. These sleek, lightweight bikes are not only built for urban practicality but also feature USB-C charging, a first in the commercial e-bike world.

Designed and assembled at Ampler’s facility in Tallinn using renewable energy, the Nova series blends minimalist aesthetics with future-proof functionality, supporting Europe’s push for sustainability, standardized tech, and reduced e-waste.

A Big Shift: USB-C Charging Comes to E-Bikes

Until now, e-bikes have largely relied on proprietary chargers that are bulky, inconvenient, and hard to replace. The Nova and Nova Pro eliminate that problem, allowing riders to charge directly via USB-C — the same universal port now adopted across smartphones, laptops, and other gadgets.

Users can recharge the 48V, 336Wh battery in as little as three hours using a 140W USB-C PD 3.1 charger. While full charging speed requires a high-wattage charger, Ampler has tested the bikes with standard MacBook and IKEA chargers that support the older PD 3.0 spec, meaning even lower-powered USB-C chargers will work — albeit slower.

Bonus: The bikes also feature bidirectional charging, allowing them to power your phone or small gadgets via USB-C when needed.

    Built for the Everyday Rider

Ampler hasn’t just focused on clever tech. The Nova bikes maintain the company’s signature stealthy design, with the battery discreetly integrated into the frame. Available in step-through and step-over variants across three sizes, they offer comfortable rides for various heights and preferences.

For daily riders, Ampler estimates that a 2.5-hour top-up is sufficient for most commutes. Both models are powered by EU-standard 250W motors and are capped at 25 km/h — aligning with regional e-bike regulations.

    Built With Sustainability in Mind

Beyond USB-C charging, the Nova series reflects Ampler’s broader commitment to sustainability and modular repairability:

    • Bikes are hand-built in Europe using renewable energy
    • Designed to be maintainable by any local bike shop
    • Compatible with third-party accessories like U-locks, child carriers, and saddles

This thoughtful approach also reduces dependence on proprietary parts and improves the bike’s long-term value and serviceability — a major plus for eco-conscious urbanites.

    Pricing & Availability

Preorders for both models are open now across the UK, EU, and Switzerland, with shipments set to begin in June 2025.

    • Ampler Nova starts at €2,990 (approx. $3,232)
    • Ampler Nova Pro starts at €3,490 (approx. $3,772)

Buyers can choose to purchase Ampler’s official 140W charger for €80, or use their own USB-C PD 3.0/3.1 charger.

Each bike comes with a two-year warranty and a 14-day return policy, supported by Ampler’s network of service centres and certified partner workshops across Europe.
