A month ago, Amazon released its very customised Fire TV television sets with low prices for a big, but not very impressive, 4K screen. Today, the company has introduced the anticipated Zoom video calling app so users can talk to their relatives and friends this holiday season (and beyond).
Amazon has tried to roll out this Zoom feature in time for the holiday season and New Year’s celebrations, despite the fact that it was missing from the initial launch and was only listed as “coming soon” as of December 7.
As you can see, these Television sets don’t have a camera built-in at all. According to the company’s article, users will need a functional USB webcam with 720p or 1080p resolution in order for it to work, and Amazon specifically recommends the Logitech C920, C922x, and C310 as options. It doesn’t matter if you have a decent microphone on your camera or if you have a good pair of speakers; you won’t be able to use them. At least for the time being, Amazon says, the Zoom app will make use of your television’s microphone and speakers.
That being said, it appears to be a simple method of projecting your family’s celebration onto a large screen, especially when contrasted to the jumble of a laptop, webcam and cable, HDMI connection, and laptop power cord. When you say “Alexa, find Zoom,” you won’t even have to search through Amazon’s app store to discover the Zoom app, as seen in the YouTube video above.
Zoom was also added to Amazon’s second-generation Fire TV Cube in July, however, it was not available on the first-generation Cube. It doesn’t have a USB port on its Fire TV Sticks, so you can’t plug in a webcam anyway.
You may purchase the sets right now, even if picture quality isn’t vital to you. The 55-inch model costs $410, while the 65-inch model costs $660. The two most popular sizes are presently available for purchase. Budget-conscious people might want to look at TCL’s 6-Series Roku TVs instead. They’re more expensive, but Zoom isn’t yet available on Roku, and you’d pay about $100 more for the set.
