Amazon has announced plans to establish a new edge location in Nairobi for its Amazon Web Services product.
This will be Amazon’s third location in Africa having previously set up locations in the South African cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing division of US E-Commerce giant Amazon.

Amazon describes AWS as “the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 165 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers —including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies—trust AWS to power their infrastructure, become more agile, and lower costs.”

An Edge location is a collection of physical servers within a data center, which will allow content distribution and reduce latency for end users.
Edge locations are most commonly set up in major cities around the world. More edge locations means content will be distributed more efficiently around the world.
Amazon executives met with Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta. Among the executives was Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector, Amazon for Amazon Web Services.
