Amazon has reversed its decision to ban VISA cards in the United Kingdom over high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions. In November 2021, the online retail giant announced that it will stop accepting payments from Visa credit cards issued in the UK from January 19th, 2022.
Amazon made this known in an email to its customers, saying it was “working closely on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk.”
However the company did not disclose the solution or how long this might be in place. It added though that “should we make any changes related to Visa credit cards, we will give you advance notice.”
The feud over fees was so bad that Amazon had gone ahead to encourage Visa Credit cardholders to switch by offering £20 for Prime customers to switch from using Visa to an alternative payment method, and £10 for other customers, if they have a Visa cards as their default or only payment method on their account.
CNBC reports that a Visa spokesperson told them by email that “Amazon customers can continue to use Visa cards on Amazon.co.uk after January 19 while we work closely together to reach an agreement.”
