Amazon launches Hair Salon business complete with Augmented reality

Tech giant Amazon has launched a hair salon in London, UK. It is not an April Fool’s joke, it is real… a hair salon. This hair salon, Amazon Salon, will feature some of the leading technology, products and services in hair care and styling.

Amazon will trial the latest industry technology, from augmented reality (AR) hair consultations to point-and-learn technology while Elena Lavagni, owner of Neville Hair & Beauty, an independent salon based in London will provide the Hair care and styling services.

Amazon Salon is set over two floors and more than 1,500 sq. ft. on Brushfield Street in London’s Spitalfields in the United Kingdom.

According to Amazon in a blog post, “customers will be able to experiment with different virtual hair colours using augmented reality technology, enjoy entertainment on Fire tablets at each styling station and capture their new look in a dedicated creative area.”

The Salon will showcase bestselling professional hair care products and “test new point-and-learn technology, where customers can simply point at the product they are interested in on a display shelf and the relevant information, including brand videos and educational content, will appear on a display screen.”

If interested, customers will then order the products by scanning the relevant QR code on the shelf to visit the product detail page on Amazon.co.uk and purchase, with delivery direct to their home.

“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager, Amazon. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

Amazon says the salon will initially be open to Amazon employees only, before it opens to bookings for the general public in the coming weeks. This will be an experiential venue where we showcase new products and technology, and there are no current plans to open any other Amazon Salon locations.

Amazon has not disclosed any details on pricing yet.
