Amazon is reportedly building a new app that could rival Clubhouse. The app named ‘Project Mic’ enables users to make and distribute live radio show that is complete with music. The project aims to democratize and reinvent the radio. The app will be first rolled out in the US.

The Verge reports that listeners will be able to tune in using the app, as well as through Audible, Amazon Music, Twitch, and Alexa-equipped devices.  The app experience will also be optimized for the car, playing into Amazon’s idea of trying to reinvent radio.

As part of the features of the app, there will be access to Amazon’s music catalog for anyone who wants to arrange a program. Amazon will also engage celebrity talent and smaller tastemakers as part of the launch to help populate the app with content. The app despite being music-focused will cover other areas like pop culture, comedy, and sports.

Project mic brings Amazon into the league of Apple, Spotify, and even Sonos, which are looking to program radio-adjacent content.
