AltShool Africa co-founder and CEO, Adewale Yusuf, has announced the appointment of Charles Thornburg as the executive Chairman. Yusuf mentioned this on his X’s timeline yesterday.
According to Yusuf, “I am excited to share that Charles Thornburgh has joined the @AltSchoolAfrica board as our Executive Chairman. Charles is a 5-time founder and CEO in the Educational technology space and has spent the last 25 years building transformative companies from K12 to Higher Education and workforce training. His companies have raised over $100M in venture capital, had several successful exits, and created new product categories that have impacted millions of learners in the US and beyond.”
Charles Thornburg is the founder and CEO of Civitas Learning, a company that leverages data analytics to help educational institutions improve student outcomes. Civitas Learning provides insights and solutions to support students from enrollment through graduation, focusing on increasing retention rates and helping students succeed. Thornburg has a background in educational technology and innovation, aiming to transform the educational landscape through data-driven strategies and tools. He is also the founder and CEO of Kinjo, a venture-backed start-up at the intersection of education and gaming, working to unleash the learning power of the world’s most engaging digital experiences.
Yusuf stated that as executive chairman, Charles will collaborate with the board to help steer the company’s strategy and “will bring his decades of experience in building and scaling learning products and teams to bear on helping us capitalize on the incredible momentum AltSchool Africa already has. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to learn from his wealth of experience and expertise and I believe his involvement will be a huge benefit to our students, team, and investors.”
