Alibaba Is Testing A Drone Delivery Service In China

Amazon’s dream on drone delivery is now a reality. According to Taobao (an online marketplace, similar to Jumia) announced that E-commerce giant ‘Alibaba’ is now testing a new drone delivery program this week in an effort to serve its customers even faster than before. Alibaba’s major online marketplace Taobao has partnered with Shanghai YTO Express to run a test program from February 4 to 6, so this service is just for Chinese customers only.

450 customers will get the chance to have their goods delivered by drone. The items to be delivered are some specific brand of ginger tea and the packages are limited to 340 grams which will be delivered within an hour. This new service is only available to customers living within a certain radius of specific distribution sites in Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai.

Perhaps if Alibaba could make this service successful, we might get to see an extension with this service and hope to see other company follow this trend.
