Seasoned Telecoms Executive, Alan Sinfield, has been appointed as the new CEO of 9Mobile. He takes over from Stephane Beuvelet, who has been in an acting capacity since the new board took over the company in November 2018.
He becomes the first substantive CEO since the company changed its name from Etisalat to 9Mobile with Boye Olusanya taking over as its interim CEO.
The announcement of the CEO’s appointment was made by Chairman of the company, Alhaji Nasir Bayero. According to him, “Alan’s wealth of experience of building high performance and high-growth organisations will play a pivotal role in strengthening 9mobile’s market position in the highly competitive telecommunications industry.
“He brings with him the vision, passion and years of experience from diverse environments, which will consolidate our priorities to provide superior customer experience and sustained network quality.
“He is expected to work closely with the Board of Directors and all stakeholders to define credible and achievable long-term business plans, through the introduction of solutions to address the evolving needs of the Nigerian telecommunication market.”
Alan Sinfield’s experience spans across the banking and the telecoms industries. He started out as a management trainee at the Bank of America and later joined Barclays Bank in South Africa as a technical manager.
Alan has served as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Customer Services Officer at Orascom Telecom (IraQna), a subsidiary of the listed Egyptian Telecommunications Group.
As a telecommunications expert, Sinfield has held leadership roles in several companies including mobile, fixed-line and broadband data operators, fintech and banking sectors. He has also held management positions in retail, media, and wholesale distribution businesses across emerging markets in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
His experience in the telecoms sector includes a couple of years as Chief Information Officer and Chief Customer Services Officer at Orascom Telecom (IraQna), a subsidiary of the listed Egyptian Telecommunications Group.
He has served in several leadership positions including CEO at Ooredoo (Starlink), a subsidiary of the listed Qatari Telecommunications Group, operating in Qatar; CEO at Amara Communications Co. , a 4G LTE mobile broadband operator in Myanmar, as well as the CEO of Cadcomms (qb), in Cambodia.
Alan has an MBA from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
