Award wining musician Akon had to perform in a huge bubble to avoid contacts with the fans at the concert. This was a precautionary measure against contracting the Ebola virus disease.
The concert took place recently in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.
While Akon was on stage, he wasn’t in the bubble but in trying to get close to the crowd, he had to get into a huge plastic protective balloon. He rolled over the crowd, pushed along by the outstretched hands of 60,000 screaming concert-goers.
The performance was part of a larger free concert held by charity, ‘Peace One Day,’ to help promote and support the United Nations’ International Day Of Peace.
But his actions prompted breathless reports from certain media outlets that, rather than just being a creative way of performing closer to his fans, it was a cynical attempt to shield himself from the deadly virus that is sweeping West Africa.
Though this might genuinely be an attempt to avoid the Ebola Virus, this is certainly not the first time Akon is performing in a bubble. He has done this in Australia, Dubai and even Calabar, Nigeria years ago when there was no Ebola. It seems this is his unique way of crowd-surfing.
