Tanzania’s Mayunga Andrew Nalimi has emerged as the overall Airtel Trace Music Star. He beat Nigerian Jitey and Baz from Congo B to the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

The judges which included Akon, Lynnsha and Devyne Stephens, made this announcement last weekend. According to Trace TV, Mayunga attracted judges’ eyes with great live and acapella performances. He also took advantage of Jitey failures in the last round of the finale to take the title.

Crowned as the winner, Mayunga won the grand prize of a record deal with Universal Music, a promotion as well as mentorship campaigns for a total value exceeding Sh45.5 million ($500,000). He will also join Akon in the studio to work on his first single.

Mayunga claims he draws his musical inspiration from international artists such as Usher, Chris Brown as well as local Tanzanian artists Nuru and Eli.
