The Managing Director of Airtel Zambia, Ms. Charity Chanda Lumpa, recently launched a partnership agreement with three Zambian bus service companies that will allow commuters to pay their bus fares through the airtel Money service. The three companies are Mazhandu, Power Tools and Zambia Malawi bus services.
Speaking at the press briefing at Intercity Bus Terminus in Lusaka, Ms. Lumpa said “the new partners will enjoy an easy to use, versatile and exciting product which is password-protected through state-of-the-art security systems on the airtel Money platform.
“The partnership is a reflection of the synergies that exist between the bus companies and airtel Networks Zambia Plc across the country, in providing a safe and convenient payment experience,” she said.
Ms. Lumpa added that any of the 2 million airtel Money customers purchasing tickets using airtel money will enjoy a K5 discount at any of these 3 bus service providers. She said the service will facilitate easy and cashless transactions that will also trigger improved security for both passengers and the bus companies, as well as eliminating revenue leakages.
airtel Money is a mobile money platform which allows customers to make payments and other non-cash transactions quickly and easily. It has been widely adopted by corporate, government and individual customers for the purchase of airtime, person-2-person cash transfers and utility bill payments. The bus fare payments is the new addition to the array of services.
Speaking at the same function, Mazhandu Family Bus Services Director Mr. Japhet Mazhandu said the airtel Money service will help to improve customer service and experience during travel.
Director for Power Tools Bus Services, Mbachi Nkwazi said the bus operators want to be at the forefront of exploiting new ideas and innovative technology to improve service provision to their customers, but also the safe handling of payments as bus operators Power Tools Services and are happy that airtel Money has introduced this useful service.
Representing KOBS Zambia-Malawi Director, Mr. Tembo said the company is constantly looking for ways to improve its customers’ experience and airtel Money will add value to commuters in Zambia.
Passengers will be able to produce bus tickets using airtel Money at three ticket sales offices countrywide using the airtel Money accounts on their phones. They will then receive the tickets on purchased at the respective bus companies sales offices instantly.
