. Unveils Mobile Midwife, Dial-a-Doctor
In an effort to reduce infant and maternal mortality rate in Nigeria, Airtel has partnered with Grameen Foundation and VAS2nets Technologies Ltd to unveil two innovative mobile health services dubbed Mobile Midwife and Dial-a-Doctor.
Mobile Midwife is a tailored mobile service designed to provide vital healthcare and nutrition information to pregnant women and nursing mothers. While the Dial-a-Doctor service offers subscribers firsthand opportunity to speak to a doctor for medical advice and tips on health matters. Both services also offer the target groups unhindered access to adequate healthcare services and medical advisories.
The Mobile Midwife service provides information for Pre-natal and Post-natal services. To subscribe and register for the Mobile Midwife service, customers are expected to dial 1561. Upon registration, subscribers will receive information, at frequent intervals, via voice calls. During the Pre-natal stage, subscribers receive calls from the service, once a week, with information which is tailored to their stage of pregnancy. They can also call in and speak to experienced medical personnel at any time.
During the Post-natal stage, i.e for new born/mother services, subscribers get relevant nutritional, medical information throughout the first year of the childs life.
The Mobile Midwife subscription service is billed at N30 per week.
The Dial-a-Doctor service is available to all men and women by dialing 67777. No pre-registration is required for this service and users are billed N30 per minute when connected to a doctor. Callers can have access to psychologists, general practitioners, dentists and many more specialists who will provide the right medical advice.
These services are intended to assist Airtel customers on medical related matters, bridge the gap to access of proper health facilities, encourage development of a consulting with accredited medical practitioners and provide necessary first aid information during emergencies.
