Bharti Airtel Africa, a leading telecommunications service provider with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, recently launched its social health programme dubbed “Airtel Villages “. The partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Population, Social Protection and the Promotion of Women and the Urban Council of Antananarivo is part of Airtel Madagascar’s corporate social responsibility.
“Airtel villages” is an out-reach programme aimed at alleviating the livelihood of disadvantaged families in dire need of medical aid. The programme provides free medical consultations, medicine and medical care by specialised doctors and paramedics .
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, the Minister’s representative commended Airtel Madagascar for this great initiative that enables people to enjoy free health benefits. : “I would like to encourage other stakeholders from the private sector to emulate Airtel Madagascar’s vision that demonstrates a genuine desire to help society.
Speaking during the unveiling of the social health initiative, Airtel Madagascar, Managing Director, Maixent BEKANGBA, said : “We not only intend to donate food or free consultations but also want to go the extra mile and improve the education and literacy levels of the Malagasy people.” He further took the opportunity to commend the efforts of the Malagasy government in ensuring a healthy community.
One of Airtel Madagascar’s key pillars is to contribute to the social well-being of its customers and the people of Madagascar. The company is largely involved in various economic and social development projects geared towards achieving this goal.
‘Airtel Villages’ is campaign that not only creates awareness on hygiene but also strengthens solidarity bonds amongst the people on the basis of good citizenship. The first phase of the programme will be installed in three sites in the capital, Antananarivo, running for two weeks before rolling to other regional towns in the course of the year.
