Airtel Kenya is set to address the challenge of poor network connectivity experienced by its customers in certain areas. The company has announced plans to expand its network coverage and enhance network reliability, with a focus on meeting the growing demand for data services in Kenya.
The expansion initiative involves the deployment of an impressive number of new sites. By the end of 2023, Airtel Kenya aims to have 349 additional sites up and running, with an additional 300 sites in the pipeline. The company’s plan demonstrates it’s commitment to improving connectivity and service quality for its customers.
As part of the expansion drive, Airtel Kenya will be deploying LTE on the 2600Mhz band to expand capacity. The company also has plans for the rollout of 5G technology in Kenya, and the introduction of VOLTE (Voice over LTE) services. Moreover, Airtel Kenya intends to introduce small cell and street solutions in densely populated areas like the Eastland region.
Presently, Airtel Kenya’s network infrastructure already covers an impressive 89% of the country, spanning over 3200 sites across all 47 counties. The company is determined to achieve full deployment by the end of the year.
Recognising the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility, Airtel Kenya is also taking steps to reduce its environmental footprint. The company has implemented a decarbonisation strategy that includes the adoption of lithium-ion batteries and solar power technology for its infrastructure. Airtel Kenya aims to minimise greenhouse gas emissions while delivering excellent service to its customers.
Mr. Olusegun Ogunsanya, Group CEO of Airtel Africa, emphasised the company’s commitment to maintaining a balance between business needs and environmental responsibility. He stated, “By using sustainable technologies, we can help protect the environment while also providing our customers with the best possible service.”
