Eutelsat Group and South African satellite enterprise Q-KON have launched the first operational Eutelsat OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite service in Africa, installed at an undisclosed digital bank branch in South Africa.

Q-KON’s Twoobii Smart Satellite Services installation offers a reliable Internet connection speed of 50 megabits per second (Mbps) with minimal delay, thus providing a backup if there are issues with ground hardware or power supply.

This launch marks a significant improvement in connectivity for African financial institutions, especially in the digital banking sector.

The Twoobii LEO solution not only provides reliable internet access but also includes crucial security measures for immediate transfer of private financial data. The bank can continue operations as usual despite terrestrial limitations.

The Twoobii LEO solution supports various operational and customer-related procedures such as branch management, intranet services, software-defined wide area networks (SD-WANs), staff and customer Wi-Fi, data backhauls, and ATMs. This step paves the way for future growth and enhanced connectivity in the African banking sector, showcasing the effectiveness of the Q-KON Twoobii Eutelsat OneWeb solution within financial services.
