    African startups invited to apply for $1M Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award

    African innovators are encouraged to apply for the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which offers up to US$1 million in prizes for groundbreaking, clean energy-powered solutions that address critical water challenges. Eligible innovations include technologies for water production, distribution, storage, desalination, and purification, aimed at improving access to safe water in a sustainable manner.

    Award Structure and Categories

    The award is divided into four main categories, each designed to recognize excellence across different dimensions of innovation:

    1. Innovative Projects Award
      • Large Projects Award
      • Small Projects Award
    2. Innovative Research and Development Award
      • National Institutions Award
      • International Institutions Award
    3. Innovative Individual Award
      • Distinguished Researcher Award
      • Youth Award
    4. Innovative Crisis Solutions Award
      • Focused on emergency and disaster-response water solutions

    This global initiative aims to accelerate the development and deployment of clean energy-driven water technologies, fostering resilience and sustainability in regions facing water scarcity.

    Applications are open here until April 30, 2026.
