The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has made a global call on agritech startups (including African startups) to apply for its Cultiv@te Programme. This Programme is focused on driving towards sustainable agriculture for the future.

The Cultiv@te initiative is basing applications on 3 main themes of agriculture. These are urban agriculture, rainfed agriculture, and livestock farming and aquaculture.

    • Urban Agriculture: This seeks innovative tech to create a sustainable food production system for the urban populace.
    • Rainfed Agriculture: Maximisation of agricultural productivity to meet climate change problems.
    • Livestock Farming and Aquaculture: Safe and sustainable livestock farming. Reduction of the environmental impact of current livestock farming practices.

Cultiv@te is open for applications from now till February 14, 2020.

After the first round, only 78 teams will be given the go-ahead to move on to the next round of shortlisting. After the second round of shortlisting, successful applicants will be announced on Monday, February 24, 2020.

The next round will see only 52 teams going through. This will be announced on March 13, 2020.

A part of the Cultiv@te initiative will see participants solving 13 challenge statements, and participants’ solutions will be judged on 5 key areas: clarity, innovation, feasibility, relevancy, and impact.

    Apply here.
