Michael Pittelkow, General Manager Public Services at SAP Africa, has identified essential roles that technology can play in tackling violence in Nigeria. The expert said fighting violence becomes more effective and less expensive with the deployment of ICT.
“ICT is crucial in the fight. Technology can enable governments to respond quicker and more effectively to incidents,” Pittelkow said.
By taking advantage of digital economy, he said government and its branches and responders could quickly, efficiently and most importantly, accurately, ascertain the level of response needed to an incident.
“Through the use and analysis of the data generated from the incidents, auditable and accurate information can be generated and used to predict crime hot-spots. This in turn allows for governments to ensure adequate resources, staffing and training are available to the correct security and safety divisions, reducing costs to the government and ultimately, the taxpayer,” Pittelkow said.
Through a portfolio of technologies, he said SAP was able to drive greater community preparedness, increased threat anticipation and improved service delivery.
“The growth and sustainability of Africa was a key focus for SAP, and the company was implementing various programmes and initiatives across the continent to ensure job sustainability, economic growth and the safety of nations.”
