    Aflix-turned-SmartVOD aims to become Africa’s preferred OTT Hollywood premium service

    Aflix which launched its Hollywood movie steaming service in Africa has rebranded to SmartVOD even as it strives to become Africa’s preferred OTT Hollywood premium service.

    Earlier branded as Aflix by SmartVOD, the service promised to offer over 2,000 hours of premium content at just $9.99 per month, with new releases rental price of $4.99 for a 48-hour unlimited viewing license. Aflix by SmartVOD  promised users new releases from Hollywood Major Studios, TV series, Kids content, sports, Lifestyle, nature and science, music, Bollywood, telenovelas and more.

    Some of the major Hollywood studios on offer were Disney, Warner Brothers, MGM, Miramax and top TV series such as Mad Man, Weeds, Anger Management.

    The firm had promised to have cash and pre-paid payment services as well as in-app payments via physical vouchers at retail stores, redeemable inside the Aflix app for content bundles. Aflix.tv said it had plans to launch its TV apps with LG, Toshiba and Samsung Smart TV’s as well as set-top-boxes.
