Adobe has introduced new AI-powered assistants for its flagship Creative Cloud tools — Express and Photoshop — as part of its broader push to make creative work faster, smarter, and more accessible.
The company said on Monday that the new assistants can help users generate, edit, and refine images and designs using natural language prompts, blending automation with creative control.
In Adobe Express, the AI assistant introduces a completely new mode that allows users to create designs or images simply by typing text prompts. This mode can be toggled on and off, giving creators the flexibility to switch between AI-powered generation and traditional design tools within the same workflow.
Meanwhile, in Photoshop, the assistant — currently in closed beta — appears as a sidebar companion capable of understanding complex layer structures, selecting objects automatically, and performing repetitive tasks such as background removal or color adjustments.
According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s Vice President of Generative AI, this dual-mode approach is designed to make creative tools both powerful and intuitive for a wide range of users — from students to professionals.
“We think this approach of switching between two modes, where you get the best of both worlds, will make the technology both accessible and controllable,” Costin explained.
Adobe also unveiled an experimental project called “Project Moonlight,” a cross-app AI assistant designed to coordinate between different Adobe tools and even connect to a creator’s social media channels to learn their unique style. The project remains in private beta.
The company is also exploring integrations with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, using the platform’s app integration API to allow users to create and edit designs directly within ChatGPT — a move that could bring Adobe’s creative tools to an even wider audience.
Additionally, Adobe announced a wave of AI upgrades across its Creative Cloud suite. Photoshop users will soon be able to choose from third-party models — such as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext — for its popular Generative Fill feature, which allows for object removal or image extension.
In Premiere Pro, a new AI-powered object mask tool will let video editors easily identify and isolate people or objects for color correction or visual effects, significantly speeding up editing workflows.
These updates mark Adobe’s latest step in redefining the future of creativity — one where AI becomes a collaborative partner, not a replacement, in the creative process.
