Sports giant, Adidas has launched solar powered headphones – the Adidas RPT-02 SOL – that has up to 80 hours of stored playtime.
Built from 87% recycled plastics, the Adidas RPT-02 SOL sports a headband that incorporates a solar cell fabric called Powerfoyle, which transforms sunlight, artificial light and indoor light into electricity. The Powerfoyle was designed by Swedish solar technology manufacturer Exeger, and it comprises of a stack of 100-atom-thick photovoltaic sheets that have been printed onto a plastic sheet.
“Built in part from recycled plastics and powered by light, the adidas RPT-02 SOL are self-charging sport headphones designed to endure the everyday challenges of an active lifestyle,” said Adidas.
It is IPX4 rated so it is sweat-proof and splash-proof andtherefore they can handle the sweat from the user’s toughest workouts. It also consists of removable and washable parts including the inner headband and ear cushions.
It has a 5-way control knob – On/off, Play/Pause, next track/previous track, pairing. It also has an action button – Light status indicator, programmable through app. The light status indicator shows where the wearers can identify where the strongest light is coming from while the app also allows users to track their charge and battery status in real-time.

Priced at $230, the RPT-02 SOL headphones comes in two colorways – Night Grey / Solar Yellow – and are due to go on sale on 23 August.
