Acer, a leading global technology company, has announced the initiation of monitor production within South Africa, marking a significant step in its commitment to local manufacturing. The production process is set to commence in the coming months, with the company’s consumer monitor range expected to roll out in August 2024. This will be followed by the introduction of commercial monitors in September, and the gaming monitor lineup will be released at a subsequent date yet to be determined.

The decision to establish a production presence in South Africa is a strategic component of Acer’s broader localisation strategy, which aims to stimulate job creation and lay the groundwork for future technological advancements in the region.

With its headquarters in Taiwan, Acer has a diverse global manufacturing footprint that spans several key regions around the world, including Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, and Hungary.

The establishment of the new monitor production program in South Africa is expected to make a meaningful impact on the country’s technology sector by generating employment opportunities. Acer acknowledges the critical role that affordable technology plays in driving economic progress and social advancement. By producing monitors locally, Acer is reinforcing its commitment to democratizing technology access, ensuring that its products remain affordable without compromising on quality, performance, or innovation.

Acer has also confirmed that all monitors manufactured in South Africa will be backed by a three-year warranty. The company has assured that these locally produced products will be available through all of its existing retail partners in the country, thereby enhancing the availability of Acer’s technology to South African consumers.

    Product Launch Timeline

    • Consumer Monitors: Acer’s range of consumer monitors, including 24-inch and 27-inch 100Hz IPS monitors, is set to launch in August 2024. These monitors combine sleek design, superior performance, and affordability.
    • Commercial Monitors: The commercial range will follow, with production slated for September 2024. Businesses and professionals can expect the same quality and reliability that Acer is renowned for.
    • Gaming Monitors: This will be in the final phase of Acer’s local assembly plans and will feature 27-inch 180Hz monitors.
