Accounteer has been named the overall winner of the MEST Africa Challenge 2018 taking home the grand prize of US$50,000 equity investment. The pitch event, which saw three other regional winners namely Ghana’s Cowtribe, Kenya’s Data Integrated and South Africa’s Swift Vee alongside Accounteer take to the stage to make presentations, was held at the Mest Africa Summit in Cape Town South Africa.
The pitch event wrapped up the MEST Africa Summit, which was a gathering of professionals from Africa, Silicon Valley and Europe. They discussed trends, challenges and opportunities affecting markets across the continent, under the theme “The Year of the African Scaleup?”
Before the competition the CEO of Accounteer, Merijn Campsteyn had played down their chances of winning the challenge. He told Innovation-village in an interview:
It’s hard to assess our chances of winning the final round in Cape Town. The competition will be fierce, but we’ll give our best pitch.
