Consulting and outsourcing services provider Accenture on Thursday appointed Julie Sweet as its new chief executive officer, effective September.
The current interim CEO, David Rowland, has also been appointed as the executive chairman according to the company.
Former Chief Executive Officer Pierre Nanterme, who died in January this year.
A former lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Julie Sweet was recruited to become Accenture’s general counsel in 2010. After five years in that role, she became chief executive for North America, Accenture’s largest market, with annual revenues of $17.8 billion.
Ms. Sweet in an interview said, “On this day, I am focused on the fact that I am the fifth C.E.O. of Accenture since we became a public company.
“I represent all our employees, which includes over 200,000 women.”
The interim CEO, Rowland said, “Julie is the right person to lead Accenture into the future, given her strong command of our business and proven ability to drive results in our largest market.
“We are on a positive growth trajectory at Accenture and are very well-positioned to continue building on our strong momentum.
“I am so pleased and proud that Julie will lead our company, and I am excited to work with her — along with our entire senior leadership team — to ensure a seamless transition and on Accenture’s next phase of growth and market leadership.”
The company said on Thursday there was no change to the forecast for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2019 that it had provided earlier.
