Editing a video can be difficult and creators can be hindered sometimes by hardware and software. This, however, does not have to be the case. It is true you have few content and affordable video editors available online. However,  Canva is fast becoming people’s favourite since it gives great features to help creators modify videos.

Buying a new video editing hardware and software is costly and requires a high learning curve. Canva’s content video editor, on the other hand, allows you to create professional-looking videos. In this guide we will look at how to  produce and edit videos using Canva’s video editor. Let us begin.

CROPPING, TRIMMING, AND COMBINING VIDEOS USING CANVA

First, how do you upload a video to Canva before editing.

    1. Go to https://www.canva.com/create/videos/. Now, select the Make a Video option.
    2. Within the video editor, go to the Uploads tab and select the Upload media button to upload your video from your computer. You can also select the three-dot option to immediately upload your video from other platforms such as Facebook, Google Drive, Instagram, or Dropbox.
    1. Now that you’ve uploaded your video, you’re ready to modify it in Canva’s video editor.

    HOW TO SPLIT VIDEOS

In the timeline, you’ll notice that your entire video is displayed as a single clip. You can divide your video into sections and edit each one separately.

    • To do this, you need to move the cursor to the point where you want to split it.
    • Now, right-click anywhere on the timeline and select Split from the menu that appears.

Furthermore, dividing your video into parts allows you to rearrange the arrangement of the clips. In the Grid view, you can see all of your clips and rearrange them. Click the + Add page button to add more clips and photos to your video.

    HOW TO TRIM VIDEOS

Canva also allows you to cut videos into clips.

    • To trim first upload the video and then select the cut icon in the edge of the screen towards the left.
    • Then, using the two sliders at the top, select a segment of the video.
    • Finally, use the Done button to save your trimmed video.

    HOW TO CROP VIDEOS

In Canva, you can crop a video to the aspect ratio of your choice.

    • First select it in preview and click the Crop button on the top left.
    • Crop the video frame as you would a picture. Next, press the Done button.

It is important to note that the same aspect ratio will be applied to the entire clip.

    ADDING ELEMENTS TO VIDEOS

Canva allows you to add objects and text to your videos in addition to basic editing.

    • Go to the Elements tab on the left. Canva’s enormous library of stickers, graphics, images, charts, and more can be found here. You can look for a specific element by browsing different categories or using the search function.
    • Click on any element in the library to insert it. Once added, you can move, resize, crop, or animate it as needed. The element you add to your video will be visible throughout the film.
    • To remove an element from a video, select it and use the Delete button.

HOW TO INSERT TEXT INTO VIDEO

You can also use Canva to add text to your video to make it more detailed.

    • On the left, select the Text tab. First, choose the kind of text you want to include.
    • Select a text style for your video.
    • Once inserted, you can alter the text inside the text field. You can also modify the font style, size, colour, location, spacing, and other options using the toolbar at the top.

ADDING EFFECTS AND TRANSITION IN A VIDEO

After you’ve completed the basic editing, you can now add some flair to your video by using Canva to add effects and combine your clips with smooth transitions.

    • Choose the video from the timeline that you want to edit and then click Animate from the top toolbar.
    • You’ll find a variety of page and photo animations here. You can see a preview of each of them by clicking on them.

Similarly, you can apply such effects to a specific element or text. To do so, pick the element and then click the Animate button in the toolbar above. On your left, you’ll see a few animations that you can use.

HOW TO COMBINE CLIPS AND TRANSITIONS

Once you’ve been able to edit all of the clips in your timeline with the tools listed above, you can then connect clips in Canva using various transition effects.

    • To add a transition, go to your video editing timeline, click the + (plus icon) between the two clips, and then select Add transition.
    • You may see a preview of each of them by hovering your mouse over them. Choose the one you want to use. You can also change the duration and direction of the animation.
    • Click the ‘Apply between all pages’ option to apply the same transitions to all of your clips.

ADDING BACKGROUND MUSIC TO YOUR CANVA VIDEO

Canva allows you to add background music to your video in addition to elements and effects.

    • On the left, select the Audio tab. You’ll discover a variety of copyright audios to utilise in your video here. You may also use the search box or the tags at the top of the page to look for audio.
    • To add a track to your video, drag & drop the audio onto the video timeline.
    • After you’ve inserted the audio, right-click it to cut, alter the level, or delete it.

ADDING AUDIO TRACKS THAT ARE UNIQUE

While Canva provides copyright-free tracks, you may always choose your own audio track to utilise.

    • To add custom audio, navigate to the Uploads tab on the left.
    • To add your customised music track, click the Upload media icon. You may also use the Record yourself button in Canva to record your audio. Your track will be available in the Audio tab below after it has been posted.
