There so many Edtech startups springing in different parts of Africa. But, unlike Fintech and Health, you can count the number of Edtech Incubators in the continent.
This was what perhaps prompted Africa’s oldest incubator & ecosystem builder, Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CiTi) to launch Injini, Africa’s First EdTech Incubator for startups dedicated to using tech to improve African education in August. Selected startups will get funding of up to $40,000. and they will be provided with support that will enable them to scale their businesses.
Well, eight African startups have now been selected to participate in the Injini Edtech incubator which is expected to kickoff on October 9 in Cape Town, South Africa. The startups to participate in the six-month incubation programme are from Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya and South Sudan.
Jamie Martin, the co-founder and CEO of Injini said the startups were selected after a pitch event on 8 September. He added that the names of the selected startups would be revealed after the startups have signed contracts on 10 October, at a launch event which will take place at the University of Cape Town.
The selected startups are working on projects that include big data analysis, an artificial intelligence (AI) application that allows users to conduct offline searches, chat-bot applications and adaptive learning.
