Roche has launched the Accu-Chek Instant system, a new “connected” blood glucose monitoring (BGM) system that complements and facilitates Roche’s integrated Personalised Diabetes Management approach (iPDM).
iPDM is a patient-centered, holistic therapeutic approach to diabetes management with the ultimate goal of streamlining care and improving clinical outcomes. iPDM focuses on improving the care process by integrating tools that visualize and analyze data and facilitate communication between patients and their healthcare team.
The Accu-Chek Instant has Bluetooth connectivity to the mySugr app, which allows for wireless blood glucose results transfer. This app provides users with quick access to their diabetes data and diabetes management tools such as the mySugr insulin calculator.
The RocheDiabetes Care Platform (RDCP) allows data from the mySugr mobile app to be shared in real-time with healthcare professionals (HCPs). The seamless transfer eliminates the need for hardware and cables to download data. HCPs can access their patients’ blood glucose monitoring data during consultations thanks to this collaboration between the RDCP and the mySugr app, allowing for more meaningful consultations.
The Accu-Chek Instant meter also features an intuitive Target Range Indicator (TRI), which assists diabetics in visually identifying and accurately interpreting high and low blood glucose levels to aid in diabetes self-management. Out-of-range test results are triggered by a blinking arrow on the meter that includes a simple display with large text and easy navigation.
“Managing diabetes can be challenging, and people with diabetes have a variety of needs and considerations when it comes to finding a blood glucose monitoring system that works for them,” said Dr. Claire Marriott, medical affairs lead at Roche Diabetes Care. Patients who need basic self-monitoring of blood glucose and those who will benefit from more sophisticated functionality to help their diabetes management benefit from the Accu-Chek Instant meter, which is simple, easy-to-use, and highly visual.
“The automatic transfer of blood glucose values to the mySugr app enables patients to easily share their results with a healthcare professional or caregiver, and the transfer of data in real-time to the RocheDiabetes Care Platform allows healthcare professionals to connect to actionable insights for a more personalized approach to diabetes care.”
Accu-Chek Instant will be available in the UK in 2021, following a favorable reimbursement decision. From April 1, 2021, it will be accessible on the UK drug tariff, with a discount price of £7.50 for 50 test strips.
With 10/10 analytical precision, the Accu-Chek Instant meter meets ISO 15197:2013/EN ISO 15197:2015 accuracy requirements.
Michael Goetzl, managing director for Roche Diabetes Care, UK and Ireland, said: “Our vision at Roche Diabetes Care is to help people with diabetes everywhere in the world think less about their daily diabetes routine so they can get true relief, day and night. We are delighted to launch Accu-Chek Instant, which supports and enables Roche’s iPDM approach and which will hopefully take us one step closer to achieving our vision.”
