With how the world has evolved, tech skills have grown to be one of the most sought-after globally. In this age, companies can hardly survive without fully utilizing technology, so they hire individuals with a range of tech skills to keep up with the ever growing world.

In order not to be left behind, a lot of people are either acquiring or upgrading their tech skills, and this has been made easy by organizations set up to offer such training.

Wondering how to join the league of those coding away? Here’s  list of organisations in Nigeria where you can learn skills ranging from software development to programming and website design/development.

    Sparkplugnow

Sparkplug is a social enterprise that re-purposes old laptops from all over the world by ‘sprucing’ it up with open source technology, videos and material designed to teach Software Engineering. They then get these laptops to the hands young Africans.

So, basically, if you have an old laptop, send it to Sparkplugnow, they wipe out the data and get it to a student in Nigeria with a new Operating System Linux – Ubuntu 16.04) and a complete Sparkplug Curriculum including Videos and Tutorials on Coding and Software Engineering will be uploaded on it.

The coding curriculum include: HTML & CSS, Javascript, Node.js, React.js, Database & Modeling, and Automated Testing.

    Switch

Switch is a talent building, discovery, acceleration and placement company. They source the best, driven and smart, young talents within Nigeria and train them to become world class software developers. This is done with an aim to support the steady growth of the ecosystem by providing world-class talents for technology companies in Nigeria.

Switch’s fellowship runs for 1 year and 3 months — 3 months of intense training, then a 12-month placement in Nigerian companies, where fellows further their skills, build portfolios and get paid.

    Projaro

Projaro trains and empowers people to become software engineers in 1year, and then pays and connect them to businesses during and after the program. Applicants with a basic knowledge of programming apply to join the fellowship, and successful applicants go through a week-long boot camp.

The Projaro Fellowship include in-depth projects, tutorials, webinars and workshops for the fellows through the period of the training.

    Andela

Founded in 2014, Andela is one of the pioneers in this space. They began offering software development training in Nigeria and have since expanded their offering to Nairobi and Uganda, with a mission to build a network of technology leaders on the African continent and bridge the divide between the U.S and African tech sectors.

Applications for Andela’s software development training opens and closes through the year in windows called cycles, and the fellowship runs for 4 years. In addition to growing into world-class Software Developers, fellows get paid over the period of training and are connected to top employers in the tech landscape.

    CodeCamp by CcHub

CodeCamp is an intense 4-week training program by Co-Creation Hub that targets early-stage designers and developers.

The program focuses on training youths on programming languages and their application. CodeCamp facilitates deeper knowledge and growth opportunities for those who have identified ICTs as a core area of interest, enabling to solve societal problems using ICT tools.

    Swap Space

Swap Space helps people take on developer/designer roles in top companies across Africa and beyond by offering a 3 months intensive training in web development, user experience and Java programming.
