The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), in partnership with the Norwegian Embassy, has announced the commencement of the application process for the sixth iteration of the MEST Africa Challenge. This year’s competition is particularly geared towards recognizing and bolstering outstanding entrepreneurs in the agricultural technology sector.
MEST, which was established in Ghana in 2008 by the visionary entrepreneur Jorn Lyseggen, operates as a comprehensive platform offering software development and entrepreneurial training programs, a seed fund, and an incubation space. Its mission is to foster the creation and growth of tech startups across Africa.
The MEST Africa Challenge has reached its sixth edition and is distinguished by its focus on a specific industry for the first time, centering on agri-tech. The competition, under the theme “Find Your Soil,” is designed to empower agri-tech startups by providing them with essential support, financial backing, and guidance.
Ashwin Ravichandran, a portfolio advisor at MEST Africa, elaborates on the theme, explaining that “Find Your Soil” is an invitation for agri-tech innovators to locate the perfect nurturing environment where their entrepreneurial dreams can take root and prosper. The MEST Africa Challenge is committed to nurturing this ecosystem by offering the resources, exposure, and strategic assistance necessary for these entrepreneurs to succeed.
The 2024 MEST Africa Challenge is welcoming applications from startups located in prominent West African markets, including Benin, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Togo.
The startup that emerges victorious in the challenge will be awarded US$50,000 in equity investment. Additionally, the winner will gain entry to MEST’s expansive global network, which opens doors to valuable partnerships, mentorship programs, and investment prospects. These resources are aimed at propelling the winning startup’s growth and enhancing its international footprint.
