54Gene, Kobo360, Piggyvest and Tizeti are the four Nigerian companies listed in FastCompany’s 10 Most Innovative Companies (MIC) in Africa for 2020.
This was revealed in this year’s MIC list which features 434 businesses from 39 countries. FastCompany claims that these businesses are the ones making the most profound impact on both industry and culture, showcasing a variety of ways to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.
Piggyvest: This four-year-old Nigerian savings platform helps users save by automatically deducting fixed amounts from their accounts at set periods (according to user’s instructions) and moving the money into savings or investment accounts.
Tizeti: This Nigerian startup, which is known for providing public Wi-Fi hotspots in urban areas, has been rolling out a high-speed network across the country using solar-powered towers.
The Kobo360 digital platform facilitates freight logistics services by connecting truck drivers and fleet operators with companies they need their goods moved throughout Nigeria and beyond.
54gene: This genetics company has taken the first step toward creating an Africa-wide genetic biobank by partnering with more than a dozen hospitals in Nigeria in an effort to collect, sequence, and analyze the genomes of their patients
The top five Most Innovative Companies according to FastCompany are:
- Snap – for setting the social agenda
- Microsoft – for coalescing teams
- Tesla – for earning the pole position the the US EV race
- Big Hit Entertainment – for mobilizing and monetizing music fans
- Hackerone – for putting hackers to work
