Qualcomm, manufacturers of the Snapdragon series of CPUs used in most smartphones and laptops including the OnePlus One, HTC One (M8), Gionee ELIFE E7L, LG G3,Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3, Motorola Moto X , HTC Desire Eye, the Blackberry Passport, etc have made a lot of promises with their new Snapdragon 810 processor. Here are some awesome amazing things phones to be released in 2015 will be able to do if they use the new processor.
1. 4K videos.
There were 720p videos, then came along the ultra clear 1080p ones. What users might know especially internet users in Africa is that there is now the 2K – videos of horizontal resolution on the order of 2,000 pixels.
Well, a phone with a Snapdragon 810 will be able to wirelessly stream a 4K video (4,096 x 2,160) to a TV. And YouTube, Amazon and Netflix have begun making 4K more available online. 4K videos are so clear that they are just a few pixels shy of cinema quality. There is a reason why it is called ultra high definition television (UHDTV).
2. Directional Audio.
How cool will it be to record a video and not have background noise? The new processor will allow phones to record video while selecting only one source of sound while blocking out the rest.
The Snapdragon 810 might just revolutionize the personal computer. Users might just not need home terminals anymore but use add-ons that extend the device into a workstation. Phones should be able to connect to a monitor, keyboard and mouse wirelessly and work as a desktop computer. The Snapdragon 810 new chip will power the next generation of Wifi (802.11ad aka WiGig) which will make this possible.
4. Game Consoles
Phones and tablets powered by the Snapdragon 810 should be a pretty good substitute for a game console. Next year’s hardware will be superb for gaming, able to connect to an external monitor wirelessly with ease for gaming on a big screen.
All these new abilities are just demonstrations at this point — it’s up to device manufacturers to implement them.
