Are you a student in a tertiary institution in Nigeria? Do you have an innovative idea or a technology-driven solution? if yes then apply to compete with over 200 Students from Nigerian Tertiary Institutions to win the grand prize of 3 Million Naira in the Professor Ogundipe Innovative Challenge (POIC).
The Challenge seeks to create an enabling and conducive platform for innovative students in Nigeria to nurture their ideas to fruition here in Nigeria rather than leave the shores of the country abroad where those ideas are adopted.
A POIC post reads. “Over the years, in a bid to make sure their idea come to life, Nigerian students become outbound thereby sourcing out their potentials. A staggering amount of 170,000+ students left the country between the year 2015-2018.
“Now narrowing it down to our faculty. Early November, after it was discovered that the annual Faculty Of Science Lecture wouldn’t hold for 2018/19 academic session. We were tasked with the challenge of creating an engaging program and at the same time-solving. a societal problem. A lot of thinking went into this process.
“We reiterated a couple of times before finally concluding on an innovation challenge. This will help in engaging the minds of students and at the same time broaden their horizon when it comes to thinking. The Power of an innovative mind is one that can’t be overemphasized.”
The Challenge is named after the 12th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe.
Interestingly, the POIC recently got a big infrastructural boost as it entered into a partnership with First City Monument Bank (FCMB). As part of the partnership FCMB, which has become a force and a major actor in the Nigerian startup ecosystem scene will set up an incubation hub in the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and will also support the winners of the POIC to get into the market space.
