On Tuesday, 26th January 2016, the Nigerian High Commission UK, formally endorsed the 2016 Nigeria Energy forum (NEF 2016) during an official visit by the NEF 2016 team to the High Commission in the UK, hosted by the Acting High Commissioner, His Excellency, Mr Adah Simon Ogah.

The Acting High Commissioner together with the Ministers of Industry Trade, and Investment, Mr. Hassan Mohammed Hassan and Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq, was extremely impressed with the presentation of the NEF 2016, and it’s unique engagement with high-level policy makers, business leaders, higher education institutions both nationally and internationally, and the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

The Forum offers a unique opportunity for key stakeholders in the national and international energy community to meet, initiate business discussions and influence the development of the energy sector in Nigeria.

The event will hold from 12th to 13th April, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria (www.thenef.org). His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been invited to be the Chief Host of the Forum and to formally declare the event open with a keynote speech titled ‘Sustainable Energy for All Nigerians – Grand Challenges, Big Opportunities’. The UK Minister for International Development, Hon. Nick Hurd, has confirmed attendance and will be making a presentation titled ‘Sustainable Energy in Africa – Rising to the Challenge’.

Over 50 distinguished speakers and experts and 300 delegates across the world are expected to attend the event. The 2016 Africa Energy Essay and Photography competition for the forum have already attracted over 300 submissions/entries from 18 different countries across 4 continents. The winner of the Honorary High Global Impact Award for the 2016 Sustainable Energy Africa Awards is the international superstar and solar entrepreneur, Akon, and the co-founders of his Akon Lighting Africa Initiative. This prestigious award is in recognition of the outstanding contributions of Akon and his team to the provision of sustainable energy services to about 450 communities in over 15 different countries.
