Twitter is celebrating its 10-year anniversary on Monday. The social network kicked off a worldwide online celebration on its blog Sunday afternoon titled “Thank you! Love Twitter,” invites people to celebrate its first decade with the hashtag, LoveTwitter.
Ten years ago, founder Jack Dorsey sent out the first tweet on 21 March 2006, Twitter has revolutionised the way we use the internet. Designed by Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass, and initially named ‘twttr’, the social media site has now become one of the most important companies in the world.

Growing rapidly over the past decade, in 2010 the site could boast of 50 million tweets being sent each day. By 2013, when the site filed their initial public offering, they claimed that had grown to 500 million.
Twitter revolutionized the short status update style messages, with its 140 character limit that forces users to fit their thoughts into bite size portions. The constantly updating, real-time nature of the service has made it a big hit during sporting events and a major asset during major events and emergencies. Not to mention, it also serves as a great social network to keep in touch with people all around the world.
Happy 10th anniversary to Twitter!
