App-based Taxi service, Taxify, is set for a comeback in South Africa. It first launched in January but it was not favourably received so it fizzled out.
Now it is back with a new business model like Uber.
Customers have a similar experience to Uber’s app, including real-time tracking on a map, driver ratings and detailed car/driver descriptions. However, the subtle differences are the fact that Taxify users can pay with cash (in addition to credit/debit cards), and users can also contact the Taxify call centre for the same service offered by the app (071 188 4044).
“Being affiliated with approved taxi operators only, gives the company an edge over our competitors. Our passengers are always assured that they are in the hands of professional, licensed drivers, who have security clearance and public carrier insurance. Every driver completes Taxify training to use the technology, maintain their vehicles, deliver professional customer service and build sustainable taxi businesses,” said Taxify South Africa CEO Trevor Joseph.
Taxify was established in 2013 in Estonia and is currently operating in 10 countries including Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia.
Taxify received 1.5m Euros funding from international investors in 2014 from Skype, Pipedrive, Adcash, Rubylight, TMT Investments and others.
Taxify is available on Android, iOS and Windows devices.
