International food chain, Pizza Hut commemorated its first year in Zambia yesterday, 16th December 2015 by unveiling the largest pizza Zambia has ever seen with 16 lucky customers.
The 16 people were invited via social media to come and partake in what was dubbed Zambia’s largest pizza. The global brand is known for firsts in other countries, such as being the first fast food brand to deliver to space and the Whitehouse. It decided Zambia was primed for its own first.
Growing from one store to three, and employing over one hundred people in just twelve months, Pizza Hut is confident in the prospects Zambia has to offer. To celebrate, the brand felt it necessary to give back to its customers.
Measuring 1.48 m in length and 0.74 m in width, the pizza had various toppings and ingredients, including pepperoni, cheese, green peppers and beef.
Pizza Hut Zambia’s Operations Manager, Ross Kasikili expressed that the Customer is first priority with the brand.
“We felt we needed to give back to what mattered most to us – the customer,” said Ross Kasikili, “With a new record of our own, we thought we would put Zambia on the global scene and who better to celebrate this milestone with than the consumer?”
Zambia Bureau of Standards were present to officiate the event and the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency there to certify the Zambian record, stating that from the measurements taken, it certainly was the largest Pizza that has ever been made in the country.
The Zambia Weights and Measures Agency’s CEO Ms. Himba Cheelo expressed the importance of its involvement in such activities and the role that they play in the protection of the consumer.
“The ZWMA has the mandate to regulate all weighing and measuring instruments in our country. They have the duty to assure the accuracy of measurements that are used in trade. Further our mandate focuses on customer protection and promotion of sustainable trade. The importance of the use of accurate measuring instruments and authorised standard measures in business cannot be over emphasised, as this is the only certain way of assuring precise quantities of commodities produced, packed and offered for sale to the general public.”
