Nokia sold off its mobile phone business to Microsoft last year ‘2014’, but now one of Nokia’s remaining business units is eyeing to re-enter the mobile phone market late 2016.
Nokia’s CEO – Rajeev Suri – while speaking with German publication Manager Magazin, said; “the firm is looking at a return to the mobile phone business. We will look for suitable partners,” says Suri. “Microsoft makes mobile phones. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license.”
The acquisition was made after years of declining sales as it failed to keep up with with the likes of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android phones but months later it launched a new brand-licensed tablet, though the company isn’t allowed to use the Nokia brand on smartphones till Q4 2016, and on feature phones for 10 years, still doesn’t stop Nokia’s intention to follow up with more devices…. So, waiting till the 2016 time-frame for a smartphone launch just to avoid legal tussles doesn’t actually come as a surprise.
