Anonymous has declared “total war” on Islamic State (IS) in response to the deadly attacks in Paris, the group announced on a YouTube video and on Twitter. The group is a loosely organized network of hacktivists known for its attempts to expose evil doers.
According to the YouTube video, though spoken in French, the spokesperson promised to launch massive cyber attacks against IS and will hunt IS all over the world. The YouTube video also noted that the French people are stronger than IS and will emerge from the recent attacks even stronger

Anonymous has already dismantled 149 IS-connected websites, according to Foreign Policy, a Washington, D.C.-based publication and website. Anonymous also identified nearly 101,000 Twitter accounts and 5,900 videos, Foreign Policy said. The report noted specific cases where Anonymous hackers exposed IS members.
One hacker, John Chase, compiled a database of 26,000 IS-linked Twitter accounts and helped build a website to list the accounts. He took measures to protect the website hacking attempts from IS and its sympathizers.
Chase became an official spokesperson for #OpISIS, a group opposed to IS.

In a nine-month period, the attacks against IS has increased in frequency and in visibility, the report noted. Some members of the Anonymous network are former security and military specialists. While the group includes people from diverse backgrounds, they are united in fighting IS on Twitter and on the deep web.
