Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, have pledged to give 99% of their Facebook shares (currently worth $45 billion) as they welcome the birth of their daughter, Maxima Chan Zuckerberg.
Mark stated this in his letter to his daughter on his Facebook page.
Dear Max,Your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You’ve already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in.Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today.
He said that the Facebook shares would be donated for good causes. This would be to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. He also announced the donation would be given through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.
Maxima was born last week but Mark only made the announcement on Tuesday 1st of December 2015.
The happy couple recorded a video to reflect and record their hopes for their daughter and all children of her generation.
