Blackberry unveiled a new smartphone, the Blackberry Motion, at the ongoing 37th GITEX Technology Week which kicked off yesterday in Dubai.
This is the follow-up to the Blackberry KEYone which was introduced at the Mobile World Congress in February this year. The infamous smartphone leaker, Evan Blass (@evleaks) had already given us a glimpse of the phone in an earlier tweet as shown below. The real deal is basically the same.

Unlike the KEYone which has a physical keyboard, the Blackberry Motion features a full touchscreen with a 5.5” Full-HD Premium Anti-Scratch, 1920×1080 display. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It is however expandable with a microSD card up to 2TB.
The rear camera is 12MP, f/2.0 aperture, with a dual-tone LED flash while the front camera is 8MP, f/2.2 aperture with a selfie flash. The operating system is Android 7.1.1 Nougat and it has a 4000 mAh battery (with QuickCharge 3.0 support) which is non-removable.
This is the first water and dust resistant (IP67) smartphone from Blackberry.
“The launch of BlackBerry Motion allows us to further diversify our product offering, delivering new experiences while remaining steadfast with the privacy, reliability and productivity that have made BlackBerry so iconic over the years,” said Alain Lejeune, Global General Manager for BlackBerry Mobile. “While the initial launch of our newest BlackBerry smartphone will be limited, this is an exciting addition to our growing BlackBerry smartphone portfolio, setting a strong foundation for further portfolio and market growth in the years to come.”

“Once again TCL Communication has delivered on their promise, to produce a true BlackBerry device that will meet and exceed expectations,” said Alex Thurber, SVP and GM of Mobility Solutions, BlackBerry. “We’re confident that customers, who are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of security and productivity on their smart phones, are going to enjoy the new BlackBerry Motion.”
The Blackberry Motion will only be available in select countries starting with UAE where it will sell for Dh1,699 and Saudi Arabia for 1,699 Riyal (about $460). Other markets will follow later in the year.
