WhatsApp just announced that it now has 1 billion people using the App.
When Mark Zuckerberg paid $19 billion for WhatsApp in February 2014, some people thought he was crazy. But his justification was simple: the messaging service was expected to reach 1 billion users and become essential for a sizable slice of the world population.
Now that his expectation has been met, he mentioned in his Facebook post that the company is going to work to connect more people around the world and make it easier to communicate with businesses.
WhatsApp maintains that the mission of the company has never changed even through all the progress it has made together over the last seven years. “WhatsApp began as a simple idea: ensuring that anyone could stay in touch with family and friends anywhere on the planet, without costs or gimmicks standing in the way.”
It also adds that its focus remains the same. Every day, the team continues to work to improve WhatsApp’s speed, reliability, security and simplicity. They are pushing to add another 6 billion people on WhatsApp.
