Zambia Telecommunication Company (Zamtel) plans to roll out a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network as soon as the company gets the green light for licensing.
Currently awaiting feedback from the telecommunications regulator Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA), Zamtel aims to begin LTE installation in Livingstone.
Sydney Mupeta, chief technical officer at Zamtel said: “We asked ZICTA for frequency bands to be utilised for 4G and we are still waiting for response.”
According to Christopher Yaluma, Zambia’s minister of transport, communication, works and supply, the government supports the initiative to establish LTE in the country.
He added that swift confirmation from ZICTA is encouraged by the government.
