What is wrong about Chicken Republic’s ad about Olisa Metuh?

Have you seen the Chicken Republic‘s ad about Olisa Metuh?

What precipitated the publication of the ad? Read on.

Olisa Metuh is the National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party of Nigeria. Recently, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested him for allegedly collecting about N400m from the office of the former national security adviser, Sabo Dasuki.

In a Punch report dated January 12, 2016, it was alleged that Olisa Metuh made a confessional statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan gave him N400m for a job which he refused to disclose. He then tore the confessional statement and decided to swallow the paper so as to eat his words literally.

Well Chicken Republic decided to ride on this and came out with the Twitter ad that they have become infamous for. While some found it distasteful with a lot of hate, some found it very creative. Whether you like it or not, it has brought attention to the Deji Akinyanju led Nigerian eatery – Chicken Republic.

This is not the first time Chicken Republic is coming out with this kind of creative ads. Some of the recent ads include that of former Chelsea handler Jose Mourinho after he was sacked from Chelsea and Babatunde Raji Fashola, Nigeria’s current Federal Minister of Power, Works and Housing.

This kind of creativity reminds me of Nando’s ads about South African President Jacob Zuma. See an example below…

I believe it is leaning towards the edge of “Freedom of Speech” and Nigerians may not totally agree about this kind of humour. I guess Chicken republic realised this and they have deleted the tweet.

Don’t ask me what I think but I leave it to the jury…Just reporting. What do you think?
