I read Jason Njoku’s recent blog post “The Economics of Cut and Paste” where he talked about a Nollywood distribution company who launched their own SVOD platform. He mentioned that the company’s strategy had been to copy everything iROKOtv has done. For a moment I wondered who it was. I wondered who had the almighty Jason Njoku talking. He cautioned them saying that “It’s going to be a mad painful and expensive experience for them. ”
Then I stumbled upon a sponsored post on LindaIkeji’s blog “Have you heard of iBAKATV?” and I wondered if this was the competitor that Jason was referring to. The Sponsored blog post stated:
iBAKATV your number one online TV Channel On YouTube launches a brand new SVOD platform with premium movies like the very much anticipated PHONE SWAP and many more blockbuster movies which will be premiering on your favorite online channel www.ibakatv.com this December.
The Post had Ramsey Noah in a video talking about iBAKATV
iBAKATV claims to be YouTube biggest premium partner in Sahara Africa, and that it have built a global audience of over 350 million video views, 2.8 billion estimated watch time and over 1 million unique subscribers from over 220 different countries which includes, United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Spain, Australia and many others. It generates more than 800 thousand hits daily
