No more payment on delivery for now – Payporte

Nigerian e-commerce company, Payporte, has suspended payment on delivery.

This statement was made on various online channels of the company.

On its Instagram page, it reads:

This is to inform our esteem customers that we have suspended the Payment on Delivery payment option on our platforms to serve you better.

Beginning from April 3, 2017, only online payments and bank transfers would be accepted as means of payment on our platforms.

Only customers who have shopped on payporte for 5 times or more will be able to access the Payment on Delivery option from April 10th, 2017.

Also refunds for unsuccessful and unsatisfactory orders would now be processed within 48 hours after request.

Thank you for choosing PayPorte, your preferred online store. #PayPorte #BBnaija#JustForYou

This is one of the popular payment features for e-commerce companies in Nigeria. Customers are allowed to pay for goods when the goods are delivered to them. Most e-Commerce companies in the developed countries do not have this option.

It was done to assist in the adoption of e-commerce in Nigeria.

Though the official reason given by the company is that it was suspended to serve customers better, some people think it might be connected with the recent murder of a Jumia delivery man. Last month a delivery man was murdered in Port-harcourt, Rivers state and his body was dumped in a well.
