Dr Goodluck Jonathan |
Nigeria’s president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has said that in 2014, his government would intensify efforts aimed at curbing leakages by deploying the right technologies. He made this known in his address to the nation to celebrate the New Year.
Specifically, he said the government would focus on deploying technologies such as biometrics. He added that efforts would be made to further digitize government payments.
He said: “Our strategy to curb leakages will increasingly rely on introducing the right technologies such as biometrics and digitizing government payments.”
He also announced that the nation would be deploying three electronic platforms this year. They are the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
“They are all geared towards improving efficiency and transparency in our public finances,” the president said.
Through the reform, he said the government has been able to save more than N120 billion.
“Through these reforms, we have already saved about N126 billion in leaked funds and intend to save more,” he said.
